The Logitech Trackball Mouse is a great peripheral that I
purchased a long time ago and discarded into a draw and then
found again whilst I was looking for my ergonomic keyboard with
a built in scroll wheel.
I thought I would reconnect the Logitech trackball mouse
just to see if I enjoyed using it and to see if I preferred it
to my usual mouse with optical technology. If you are
unfamiliar with a Logitech trackball mouse then the easiest way
to explain the differences is simply instead of the whole mouse
moving the mouse cursor, you only use a trackball i.e. a big
ball on the front of the mouse to move the pointer with a
Logitech trackball mouse.
The specifications of the Logitech trackball mouse are that
it is certainly a lot bigger then my standard mouse, mainly to
house the large trackball and provide a solid robust platform
for the trackball to sit in. It’s good though for
comfort, my hand sat quite well on the trackball and I was
worried about my thumb aching after a while, something that I
did not have to worry about after all as it was just so
comfortable. On both sides of the Logitech trackball
mouse are the main buttons which are just like a standard mouse
buttons and do the same operations. With the whole unit
in the palm of your hand both buttons are easy to press and the
overall comfort as I have said before is really good. I
was using the Logitech trackball mouse on my Vista operating
system and it was picked up straight away from plugging it
in.
The connection was via my USB port and within the Logitech
trackball mouse box I also found some USB adapters which
allowed you to connect it via a few other methods for older
computers. My Logitech trackball mouse is a dark grey
colour with the big trackball in a fairly bright red see
through colour.
The first time I used it I was quite taken aback at its ease
of use. At first it was kind of funny as I moved the
whole Logitech trackball mouse around as you would a normal
mouse only to remember just to use the big red trackball which
took a little getting used to. Just for your information
when you do move the whole mouse, nothing happens as there is
no laser detection underneath or roller ball it’s just a solid
unit. I also found that the two main mouse buttons were
easy to use on my Logitech trackball mouse and it’s slightly
different to your traditional mouse as the buttons are a little
further away then your standard mouse.
All in all the Logitech trackball mouse was very reliable
and good to use, however I cannot see myself using one all the
time as I feel its really for people who do graphic design or
architects etc.
Overall conclusion after using the Logitech trackball mouse
for most of the day is I like the design and comfort but for
standard pc use I think you really cannot beat the standard
design mouse.
